The masseter is a muscle located on the side of your face that plays a crucial role in chewing. Masseter injections involve administering anti-wrinkle injections into the masseter muscles on either side of the jaw. These injections help relax the muscles, providing both therapeutic and cosmetic benefits.
If you suffer from jaw pain or temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, masseter injections may provide significant relief. By relaxing the muscles, the treatment can reduce tension, helping to alleviate pain and discomfort.
Teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, can also be improved with masseter injections. By relaxing the jaw muscles, the treatment can reduce the intensity of involuntary grinding and clenching.
In addition to their therapeutic benefits, masseter injections are often used for cosmetic purposes. If you're looking to achieve a more refined facial appearance, relaxing the masseter muscles can create a slimmer, more contoured jawline.
The procedure typically takes around 30 minutes. During your appointment, Dr Rasa will discuss the treatment with you in detail and answer any questions you may have.
A series of 3-4 small injections will be administered directly into the masseter muscles. Most patients experience little to no discomfort during the procedure, which is minimally invasive and requires little to no downtime afterwards.
Most patients can return to their normal daily activities immediately following treatment. Some mild bruising or swelling may occur, but this is temporary and usually resolves within a few days.
The effects of masseter injections generally last between 4 and 6 months, although this can vary from person to person.
